Clint Eastwood is by far one of the greatest and most toughest actors of all time. His low gravelly voice, his classic one liners, and his quick draw skills make him one of the most wonderful actors I have ever had the pleasure of watching on my TV screen. He is truly a man among men. His directing skills aren't anything to sneeze at, either. Here's some of my favorite scenes of him:
Clint Eastwood is only about as good as Nic Cage IMO. He can only play one character. Not that he does it bad. He does a pretty good angry bad-ass but it's always the same.
I'm not a fan of his politics, but he is a solid, grounded human being and I can't help but respect him for the most part. As an actor, like LSB said, he's very much a one trick pony- he's no chamaeleon; but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. I think of him being the kind of actor to which Olivier reffered when talking of Michael Caine: there are some actors who make themselves the character, and others who make the character themselves, and neither is superior to the other. Michael Caine is always Michael Caine, and Eastwood is always Eastwood- but you believe them. That is that character in that situation exactly how that character would be. There's never any woodenness, or disbelief- it may be just him, but he's angry. Or happy. Or sad. Or any of the myriad of emotions one can feel. Not a character actor, by any stretch, but a solid, solid performer with a firm grip of humanity in his repertoir.
I used to hate Nic Cage but when you said it was like watching one guy do hundreds of wacky things they became some of the most enjoyable film experiences I've had. Thank you Ruby for opening my eyes and thank you Nic Cage for being Nic Cage. A mod needs to change this to Nic Cage appreciation thread.
Yes. It's almost like you see what his true emotions would be in the situations given in each movie he acts in. That makes him human and relatable. He still has some of the best lines I've heard in a movie. Um, no. You can create your own Nic Cage thread if you want, I don't want this getting off topic. Kthx.
I do like Eastwood a lot as an actor. Of course I'm not the biggest fan of westerns but that's just, something I don't like about the dusty, arid locations. I wouldn't like to live in the desert myself Dirty Harry for better or worse is a very wild west character transplanted into urban settings and just for that reason I really like them. They are all great movies, well written, believable but still able to excite the way good action movies should. He is a great director, Mystic River was spellbinding and probably the one movie he got away from the stoic badass for a bit. As for Cage "NO NOT THE BEES NOT THE BEES ARRRRGGGHHH!!!!" I promise not to do it again
