I use IE only because the issues I've had with Chrome and Firefox are marginally more irritating. All the same, I'm thinking of switching anyway because of the lack of customization.

And yes, the URL does change. Then it opens that message box about viruses, and clicking anything in the box leads you to a fraudulent "Virus Report" page. I'm not sure at what point it actually manages to put malware on the computer, but it's been pretty successful in the past.

It happened to me once in FireFox. I think it's just one of those trick ads though.

I've tried everything but Firefox, and Chrome is by far the best thus far. Never have any problems with it (except for compatibility issues when certain websites won't work for anything but Firefox or IE).

I agree. Chrome is the best, in my experience. But the interface is a little cumbersome for some of the things I do, and I've had problems importing bookmarks. I might try again when I switch my email later this summer.

Dunno if the switch will solve this problem, but it's worth a shot. Honestly, this is a confounding issue, because this ad only seems to be active a week or two each month, then I'll go 2-3 without seeing it before it starts popping up again.

It's a google ad. I know that much, but I can't really filter it out unfortunately because google doesn't let me pick individual ads to not display. I can only tell them what type of ads not to display. I reported to them, so hopefully they can stop it.

Thank you. I appreciate it, and I hope it wasn't too much trouble.

I was taking over Candy's old OP to her gym in the pokemon league, and I decided to put her original OP in spoiler tags so we wouldn't lose it. For some reason it's giving me 2 sets of spoilers, one empty, and one with her old OP, even though I only used one set of tags. I'm not sure if it's because she had differently aligned text or if it had something to do with the images in there, but it's something I haven't see before on this site. It's not a major issue, but it might be worth looking into.

Copy-pasting stuff like that usually results in weird tags. I suggest you use the "BB Code editor", by clicking the top-right button, when trying something like that.

I didn't copy or paste anything. I just put the spoiler tags around the original OP.

Edit: Actually that worked. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm not sure why it registered as 2 spoiler tags, but it did have to do with Candy's formatting in her original OP. There was a [/left] tag after my spoiler tag.

Yeah, I always had that problem, and I think Error's the one who solved it for me too. Anything that isn't in the forum's default formatting is going to give you problems like that.

Yeah. I'm sort of twiddling my thumbs waiting on Xenforo's next big update. Lots of shit is getting fixed/added.

The solution to our spambot problem:
Put this question on the registration page- "Are you a spambot?"
Accept three answers- No, no, or NO.

It's easy to program a spambot to get around it, but unless someone is programming them specifically for our site, I think it should work.

The spambot problem is nowhere near as bad as it was, but we're still getting a whole lot of them. They often hide the advertisements in their information pages now. I'm not sure what made them start showing up so much. I know that they're not hurting anyone, but I find it very annoying that so many of the users on this site aren't real people. I'm going to keep banning them when I see them.

Here is one that I no longer have the power to ban, since it signed up too long ago. It's got the same IP as a lot of other bots. If I find more that I can no longer ban, I'll list them here.

Just list the ip's. I'll ban them as fast as I can. Unfrotuantely there is no sure fire way to get rid of spam bots, but at least the new method has slowed them down a bit.

They seem to have picked back up a little. What if we came up with new questions each week for registration? We could even put the answer in the question to keep from confusing humans. If you have trouble coming up with questions, I'll throw out a few new ones each week.

What company makes the Legend of Zelda franchise? (Nintendo)

What band wrote Yellow Submarine? (Beatles/The Beatles)

What is fourteen minus two? (12/twelve)

Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and Porky Pig are members of what collection of cartoons? (Looney Tunes)

    Or maybe something like:

Consider the square well, with well depth V0, and width 2a, symmetrically placed about x = 0. Discuss this problem from two viewpoints, and use this question to improve your notes on this topic.
First, measure the energy of a bound state from the bottom of the well, and then consider this as a problem for 'free particles' in the momentum representation. Show that a) [p,H] = 0, and that the expectation value of the momentum p = ± hk; b) outside the well, when E < V0, k is imaginary, so that u(x) = exp(±kx), with k = ik, in the x- or "real space" representation. In addition, give the reasons why we need to choose just one of the solutions, not a linear combination of the two, outside the well.

Second, consider the more usual starting point for describing a deep well, with V = 0 outside the well, and -V0 inside the well. Show that, if E < 0: c) inside the well, u(x) = Asin(kx) or Bcos(kx), but that it cannot be Asin(kx) + Bcos(kx), with A and B non-zero; d) Derive the equations needed to determine k and (A or B ) by considering the boundary conditions on the wave function at either x = a or -a; e) Work out the k-value and the energy of the second odd-parity excited state if V0 is very large.

    (Hell if I know)

Nothing bad about Error's post. I like it. But to do an essay/long answer response just isn't proper for the spambot question.

I can definitely rotate the question weekly.
