Why do people call SM3DL a unique blend of 2D Mario and 3D Mario? Many games have done that in the past.

SM3DL is a 3D Mario. No different from how SMG and SMG2 are.

It's actually much more of a 2-D Mario than it is 3-D.

It's much more linear, you're running in a straight path... it's more 2-D Mario with a 3-D perspective, but definitely not full-on 3-D.

Because they've included quite a few classic Mario elements that the 3D games often ignore in that game. For instance, breakable blocks became a common feature once more.

Those are just elements. SM3DL is still a 3D Mario with 2D elements, maybe moreso than SMG, but still.

No, there are many, many more full on 3-D levels in those games, rather than just one per world like in 3D Land.

SM3DLand is the first 3D Mario to use the 2D Mario gameplay structure-
    - Progress is made by clearing goal-point based levels instead of solving multiple objectives in various action fields
    - No life meter, instead there's a series of tiered power-ups
    - Power-ups exist to make the level easier, not as required tools to complete objectives

So anyone else feel Mario Galaxy 1 was way too easy? It took more time, exploration and planning in general to get the stars in Sunshine and 64 - Galaxy was pretty linear just jumping and bopping enemies straight to the star.

SMG was insanely easy if you're just going for 60. But there's some tough stars later on. As for being linear... it's Mario, what'd you expect? Far more in line with traditional Mario and platforming... and 10x's better as a game. :P

In addition, SMG2 has the same style gameplay.

I wouldn't say it was too easy. I think it was exactly the level of difficulty I would want in a Mario game. I want to feel the enemies and feel the impact of failure from time to time, but I don't want my Mario games punishing me for silly things. I haven't played SMG2, but I'm actually thinking of going over some wii games I missed in the last year or so.

Hmm... well, there's things I both like and dislike about the linearity.

But yeah, overall I felt SMG2 had a more balanced difficulty level despite the same style gameplay.

New Super Mario Brothers Wii is better, as long the people you're playing with don't kill you. :mock:

Not in the later stages. :P

    The level design is better.
