    I just finished Cowboy Bebop.

It was pretty much "okay." I've seen much better and I certainly don't think it's lived up to the hype a lot of people gave it. But, it wasn't Evangelion bad or anything :P

    Fairy Tail 284
Erza Scarlet is officially the coolest and most badass female mage in Fairy Tail EVER!!! This chapter almost made me weep manly tears... and I'm pretty sure the anime adaptation will make me teary-eyed. Yes, it's that awesome...

Years of being an Eva fan have taught me to sit back and let the hate wash over me.

Eva gets undeserved praise, but it certainly wasn't awful.

Don't put a lot of sway into what hybridal says, he's the kind of person to say something's "too common, or too mainstream" sometimes.

    So, TOONAMI
Deadman Wonderland seems to be trying too hard.
Casshern Sins though, I'll be following that.

It was. Don't kid yourself :P

Pretentious garbage with awful characters. Maybe the remake is better mind you, but I just am not interested in it because this series should have been left and never revisited.

I think I said it before in this thread, but I'll restate it anyway; Eve is a series that you either get or you don't get.

The question remains: which is the set that actually likes the series?

I think Eva actually makes sense on a subconscious level. I know how that sounds but hear me out: The way the characters personalities fit together with the main theme (loneliness vs. belonging) and the different way they express the same internal conflict speaks to me at least. Every character has the same internal conflict: Whether or not to open themselves up to others, or to keep their walls up and let nobody in. Each character shows/deals with their insecurities in their own way, yet the emotions remain the same.

The theme carries over into the plot itself, as organizations exist to bring humanity into one, godlike being (Belonging) and others are trying to prevent that from happening (individuality).

All the main characters deal with abandonment issues. Asuka chooses to make a name for herself, be outgoing, and make sure everyone knows who she is, that way, no one will abandon her. But when she is saved by the other pilots, this damages her pride (the mindfuck angel only exacerbated her issues) and she fears that she's failed, that she is useless, and no more than the doll her mother used to represent her. This lead to her breakdown and eventual coma.

Shinji, being the little bitch he is, resigns himself to his fate several times through the series. But something usually drags him back to piloting the Eva. Whether it's his angst against his father, his care for his friends, or his quasi-abusive relationship with Asuka. He bases his self-worth on the thoughts of others, and when he is scolded, chastised or made to feel worthless in any way, he runs off and hides. He avoids others because he doesn't want to let them know his insecurities, and he feels that it would burden the others to know how he feels.

Misato fears a life similar to her fathers, a life consumed by work and no fun. She seeks out "fun" things, drinking, sex, etc. But eventually feels hollow, bringing a feeling of empty pleasure. After Shinji has lived with her for a while, and he gets sucked into the LCL (or something) her maternal instincts kick in, and it shows that she fears her life is slipping away. (Also stated in a conversation with Kaji, that she fears about her life)

I could go on, but I think I've made my side of the argument.

Your argument didn't accomplish anything DS, obviously I realise what Evangelion is about.

What fucking grinds my gills is it really thinks it's so smart about it or so meaningful. It's a very simple plot really. I think however that I'm too well adjusted to identify with the characters (thank fuck), and the characters themselves are the biggest crime; not a single one of them really comes across like a person but rather as a vessel for the point the plot is trying to make. That's poor character writing.

And as for everything else, the mecha fights really aren't particularly entertaining; countless shows are much more exciting to watch.

So, just finished watching Berserk Golden Age Arc I: Egg of the Supreme Ruler (fucking long name is long)... The adaptation was cool, although I felt it skipped some important character-defining moments (such as the extremely gay bath fight), making the supposed friendship between Guts and Griffith not at all apparent, and Guts origins a delirious mess (I guess they're saving a proper flashback for the third movie, when Guts tells his story to Casca, so that may be fixed). The CGI was just... bizarre. But not in the way I thought it'd be. The cel-shading made it fit well with the rest of the film (even though the switch was still obvious, most of the time), but the animation itself just felt weird, unnatural.

All in all, it was worth the watch, but still leagues behind the manga.

    EDIT:

And... a new Berserk chapter is out! A very weird one, at that.

I wonder what Miura is trying to show with a sudden flashback to Guts's younger days... Maybe it's just filler so he can plan for the proper storyline while still releasing new chapters, but that is not something Miura normally does (specially considering he has all the time in the world to plan the story between chapters, without the time constrains of some other mangaka).

So, I think the safest bet is that this will somehow connect with the current storyline. We see an elf in the last page (although Guts seems unable to see it at this point), so maybe we'll get some more information on Elfhelm? It's a little strange thinking of Guts having met an elf before Puck, though...

Anyway, one chapter out, the next one within the month, I couldn't be happier :P

Reviving of an old thread! :P

    Naruto 593

Oh, hey! Look! Orochimaru's back! Again!

Seriously, does that man not die?! I thought we'd seen the last of him when he got sealed away by Itachi for all of eternity. However, in Naruto, apparantly an eternity only lasts a few arcs, since it turns out Orochimaru was still alive inside Anko's curse seal, or something.

Putting that aside, this was a very interesting chapter. I'm interested to see what is written scroll, and just how war-changing it really is. Does anyone have any idea what is written on it? I'm open to suggestions.

I also think it's high-time we found out Tobi really is. I want some real fighting between Tobi and Naruto, now that the Jinchuriki have been sealed away.

I'm still inclined to think that Tobi is Izuna. Madara, who I forgot to mention is now immortal with unlimited chakra (overkill much?), seems to have planned with Tobi.

Still, a good chapter, and I'm eager to see what will happen next with Sasuke and Orochimaru.

It was a piece of his soul. I wonder if they used the term "bunshin" in the original Japanese, seeing how that's how these things are usually described, but the term has a very different use in Naruto.

And I feel like Naruto is now bullshitting its way into another arc, since I doubt "Sasuke's team" will pull its move until Tobi is done for. And that's fucking ridiculous.

Ah, fair enough. Still, the man doesn't die. Can the series not kill a character, and then keep them dead?! I'm almost expecting Jiraiya to appear now. :mock:

This. The scroll will probably be used as some plot tool for another arc, in which it will end with Sasuke and Naruto's fight.

I wouldn't doubt that either. In fact, since Kabuto pulled his move at the start of the war, Naruto has been desperately clinging to life by pointlessly bringing back characters to extend the story way past the point it should have ended, even for shonen standards.

    As for the scroll...
where did Suigetsu find it, again? It probably explains some of Tobi's jutsu, or some shit like that. Although Sasuke implies that croll will allow him to talk to the Uchihas, or some crap, so it may also be the instructions for Edo Tensei...

Suigetsu found it in one of Orochimaru's old bases, I believe.

Wait, that was implied? I swear he hasn't said anything about the scroll, other than it could change the war. Sasuke also keeps going on about how he needs to be "speak to the one with all the answers"...

...Who could that be? Sage of the Six Paths? His Dad, maybe? No idea.

I just assumed that "the one with all the answers" would be an Uchiha/the Uchihas (it can be "the ones with all the answers", Japanese is tricky), since he wants to know everything that was going on behind the coup and all.
